Vintage 1980s Designer Zandra Rhodes Black Dress with Elaborate Ruffle Details and Sequins Silk and Acetate. Here we have an authentic 1980s Sandra Rhodes black mini dress made from silk and acetate. The sleeves and hemline have large ruffled flowers made from the pleated material with sequins and bead centers. There is a center back zipper. The neckline is square and the sleeves are short. This piece is in very good condition for its age. All beads and sequins appear to be in tact. There are no major issues to note. This is a handmade strapless fit & flare dress from around 1953. The fabric is lush black velvet with an under-layer of red silk at the bust and peek-a-boo “berry” like dot clusters along the front and the back of the bodice. It’s a beautiful dress but being handmade there are some inconsistencies. The most obvious of these is the fact that the stay on the left side of the bodice is exposed at the top, rather than hidden as it is on the right. This can be seen in the photographs. The bust measures 26″, the waist 22″, and from the waist to the hem the full circle skirt is 30″ long. The fabric and the dress are in perfect condition. Very beautiful and completely unique!
